A Bold New Vision for Hyatt Regency Vilamoura by THDP

Exciting changes are on the horizon for the Algarve, as THDP has been appointed to lead the transformation of the Dom Pedro Vilamoura Hotel into the elegant new Hyatt Regency Vilamoura, which will be managed by DETAILS.

Set for completion in 2026, this ambitious redesign aims to bring a fresh sense of luxury to the region, combining contemporary elegance with the Algarve’s rich cultural character. Just 20 minutes from Faro International Airport, the future Hyatt Regency Vilamoura will see a complete design refresh—covering everything from guest rooms and suites to public areas and dining spaces.

THDP’s signature approach seamlessly integrates Portuguese craftsmanship, natural materials, and a relaxed elegance, ensuring a truly immersive hospitality experience. The project scope includes a fully transformed lobby with an enhanced check-in experience and a new central feature bar, remodelled F&B facilities including the restaurant which features live cooking stations, a central Josper Grill to elevate the gastronomic experience, a refurbished octagonal terrace bar, and sophisticated, locally inspired furnishings throughout. London based THDP leads the interior design and visual concept, collaborating with Washington DC based Streetsense for the strategic repositioning of all F&B outlets. The first phase of improvements is expected to be completed by late summer 2025, with the full rebranding to Hyatt Regency scheduled for early 2026.

A Design Rooted in Local Inspiration THDP’s vision for the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura is inspired by Portugal’s artisanal traditions, the Algarve’s breath taking landscape, and the region’s distinctive architecture. Incorporating handcrafted azulejo tiles, woven natural textures, and a palette of warm, earthy tones, the design evokes an authentic sense of place while delivering a modern and sophisticated retreat.

“Hyatt Regency Vilamoura represents a dialogue between modernity and tradition—a space where guests feel connected to their surroundings while indulging in contemporary luxury,” said Nicholas Hickson, Co-Founder of THDP and lead designer on the project. “Our design captures the essence of the Algarve—its light, its textures, and its spirit of hospitality.”

Elevating the Guest Experience

The transformation of the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura will bring a series of thoughtful enhancements designed to elevate the guest experience across every touchpoint. Guest rooms and suites will be completely reimagined, featuring natural wood finishes, soft upholstery, and a soothing palette inspired by the Algarve’s coastal landscape—think ocean blues and sandy neutrals. Handwoven raffia headboards, Portuguese ceramic accents, and bespoke lighting fixtures add layers of texture and local charm.

The lobby is set for a dramatic overhaul, anchored by a centrally located bar, biophilic design elements, and a curated selection of artwork that together create a vibrant yet welcoming atmosphere. Dining and social spaces are also being revitalized in collaboration with Streetsense, with standout features including an octagonal terrace bar, interactive cooking stations, and an al fresco dining concept that pays homage to the region’s rich culinary heritage.

Outdoors, the experience continues with expanded fitness and spa facilities, a redesigned pool deck, and serene landscaped gardens—spaces designed to promote relaxation and foster a deeper connection to nature.

A Commitment to Sustainability & Timeless Design

THDP’s design philosophy prioritizes sustainability and authenticity. The Hyatt Regency Vilamoura project will emphasize the use of locally sourced materials, energy-efficient solutions, and an environmentally conscious approach, ensuring a luxury experience that is both responsible and enduring.

The Future of Hospitality in Vilamoura

This transformation is part of a broader strategic investment in Vilamoura, marking a new era for luxury hospitality in the Algarve. By merging Hyatt’s globally recognized service standards with THDP’s expertise in hospitality design, the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura will set a new benchmark for contemporary elegance in Portugal. The first phase of renovations is expected to be completed by summer 2025, with the hotel fully rebranded by 2026.
