BCFA Annual Luncheon 2014
Another fantastic event
The Industry event of the year was held again at the Dorchester in November, popular as ever tickets sold out in record time. Attracting the key players from within our dynamic industry the luncheon is renowned for it’s relaxed and friendly atmosphere, where members and their guests enjoy a sumptuous lunch with entertainment this year provided by radio & TV comedian Miles Jupp.
In his maiden speech as BCFA Chairman, Milan Cvetkovic of Vescom highlighted The growth in the Association’s membership which he put down to the determined efforts to broaden and strengthen the BCFA’s support activities adding value to the membership. Mr Cvetkovic concluded his speech; ‘For me nothing exemplifies better the essence of the BCFA like today! I know of no other trade association that brings together , those that supply & facilitate with those that create in such an informal, relaxed, friendly and collaborative manner.’ Adding ‘ In these demanding , pressured, everchanging times it is something of immense value.’
This year’s Panaz BCFA Lifetime Award was presented by Tony Attard OBE, CEO of Panaz to Margaret Miller Chairman and owner of Knightsbridge Furniture for her significant contribution to the contract Furnishing industry. In his presentation Mr Attard applauded Mrs Miller’s energetic fundraising for the Furniture Makers Livery Company, skills which she has put to good use raising £4m for research at the University of Bradford into cancer and its treatment.
Margaret Miller shares her thoughts on the award “I was absolutely delighted to receive the BCFA/PANAZ Lifetime Achievement Award when everything I have done has been enjoyable and a great pleasure.
When I came into the industry over 50 years ago there were very few females and I was tested on many occasions as to whether I actually knew anything about making furniture. It seems I came through that, so to be recognised by one’s peers is very gratifying and humbling, particularly considering the previous great recipients.
The greatest satisfaction for me has been in sharing, whether it be money, time or experience and if I have been able to contribute to our industry and inspire a few people, it has all been worthwhile.”
