Botanics Inspire Ege’s Latest Project Down Under

Garden State Hotel, Melbourne

Technē Architecture + Interior Design has completely rebuilt this four-storey bar and hospitality venue while preserving its distinctive exterior, a heritage Victorian era building that began life as a textile mill in 1896. The hugely ambitious 2,000 square-metre project preserves much of the original factory’s saw tooth roof while opening its central bays to form a terraced beer garden that has the feel of a Victorian conservatory. Ege designs have been used for the carpets throughout, and as the name suggests really fit in to the ‘Garden’ theme beautifully.image 1 The contemporary architecturally designed pub is a versatile space, with different rooms and areas to support varied audiences and functions. Technē Architecture + Interior Design imbues these diverse spaces with intriguing interconnections giving a sense of exploration for their guests. While the front bar is still likely to be a vibrant community watering hole, bespoke dining areas and beautiful private function rooms create opportunities where the pub can now service the entire hospitality spectrum, from casual get togethers to finer dining and corporate events.

The sophisticated design creates a flow between spaces diverse in function, capacity and architectural inspiration. The distinctive ege carpet designs all contribute to the vibrant yet cosy atmosphere, not forgetting superior acoustics.
