Clerkenwell: Milliken launches planks and tiles
From the 21st to the 23rd May 2019 Clerkenwell plays host to one of the largest and most popular celebrations of design in the UK: Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW). Clerkenwell is home to more creative businesses and architects per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, making it one of the most important design hubs in the world.
BCFA member Milliken has been a showroom partner since the event’s inception in 2009 and will be taking part again in its tenth year.
Because well-being is at the core of Milliken’s design ethos (creating flooring with superior acoustic performance and exceptional underfoot comfort) events will focus on the pursuit of happiness. There will be product launches, talks and workshops that offer a bright, energetic, colourful and happy perspective on well-being.
Continuing the theme of working with local artists for its CDW identity Milliken collaborated with London based illustrator and designer Erin Aniker to creatively communicate its vision of a happy workplace. There will also be well-being dens for visitors to explore; offering virtual reality meditation experiences, a stress-busting massage station and refreshments at Milliken’s stunning Berry Street showroom.
Milliken launches its latest carpet plank and tile collections ‘Fractals’ and ‘Poise’ which use Milliken’s proprietary Millitron® patterning technology to combine soft organic patterning with subtle washes of beautiful colour in a complex textural luxurious construction.
Both collections come with Comfort Plus® cushion backing to provide the ultimate in underfoot comfort as well as offering positive acoustic benefits. ‘Comfortable Concrete 2.0’ and extensions of Milliken’s popular ‘Clerkenwell’ and ‘Colour Compositions’ carpet tile collections will also be showcased.
On Tuesday 21st (from 10.00 until 11.30AM) and Thursday 23rd (2.00 to 3.30PM) internationally acclaimed artist Liz Atkins will give an abridged version of her TED Talk on how she confronts her complex compulsive condition through art. Followed by a chance to take part in her ‘Draw yourself a happy mind’ workshop. On the evening of Tuesday 21st May there will be a lively and informative panel discussion exploring happiness: What do we mean by it? Are we all chasing unattainable goals? What kind of practical steps can Milliken’s expert panel suggest to decrease stress and increase satisfaction? Can we design for happiness?
Journalist Helen Parton will chair with panellists Ben Channon (architect, author of ‘Happy by Design’ and founder of the Architects’ Mental Wellbeing Forum), Kate Cook (Harley Street Nutritionist, international speaker and seven times author), Neil Shah (founder and Director or the Stress Management Society and best-selling author) and Tim Stoller (Director of the ‘The Happiness Index’).
There will be writing for well-being workshops with writer and facilitator Kate McBarron. Writing can be a powerful and creative tool for enriching our daily lives. Participants can learn more about writing for well-being in these introductory workshops taking place on Wednesday 22nd May starting at 11.00AM and 2.00PM.
And just for fun, on the evening of Wednesday 22nd May, Milliken will host its ‘Great Big Clerkenwell Design Week Quiz’. Join Mix Interiors Editor Mick Jordan and Director David Smalley for a light-hearted quiz on all things Clerkenwell with fabulous prizes to be won (by invitation only).
