Column: Carolyn Mitchell – The Power of Connection
Monthly Column By Carolyn Mitchell
At the beginning of my career, a wise person told me “It’s simple, it’s all about people doing business with people,” and over 35 years later, this is still so true.
The relationships we build with colleagues, suppliers, and clients are the foundation of our success in the commercial interior’s world. These connections, nurtured through the generous sharing of time and expertise, not only strengthen our professional bonds but also make our collaborative efforts more enjoyable. Collaborating in this way creates exciting, visionary and beautiful commercial spaces, projects that enrich the lives of those who inhabit and experience these thoughtfully designed spaces.
By sharing our insights and experiences, we create a supportive network that drives business success and fosters a sense of belonging, respect and trust and integrity. Importantly this creates a sense of purpose and belonging for all of us. Together, we have created a vibrant creative community, and the relationships we forge are essential in helping us understand each other better, what the client wants, allows us to align our goals, and ultimately deliver superior projects.
Two weeks ago, Commercial Interiors UK came together for our annual summer BBQ, welcoming over 240 members of our community to enjoy conversation, laughter, and dancing. The BBQ is an event bringing together long-standing and new members, as well as interior designers and specifiers at all career levels in a relaxed and fun setting.
While we all meet regularly with our clients to discuss ongoing and upcoming projects, new product launches, and knowledge reports, there’s something unique and special about connecting outside the office or studios, and Commercial Interiors UK events are always a firm fixture in everyone’s diary.
From my perspective, these events are more than just social gatherings; they remain vital for building the kind of relationships that drive our sector forward, keeping us connected.
Our thoughts have now turned to the ticket launch for our Annual Luncheon, an event we are extremely proud of. This luncheon is highly regarded not only as CIUK’s flagship event but also as a highlight of our industry calendar. I very much look forward to welcoming so many friends, colleagues and clients and sharing the day with you.
So, let’s continue to come together, share our experiences, and strengthen our community!
