DESIGN SHANGHAI
A REVIEW OF DESIGN SHANGHAI
So let’s take the best of British high end Design to China, package it in a European style exhibition and set it in an extraordinary venue with interiors reminiscent of a Moscow subway!
This is just what Media 10 achieved with the inaugural Design Shanghai show which closed its doors on Sunday having received an overwhelming and rapturous response from Chinese design community.
The neoclassical architecture of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, a gift from Russia to China in the 1950’s resembling a Hollywood film set, provided an amazing backdrop to the eclectic mix of design on display.
The organisers were overwhelmed with the visitor response, over 10,000 each day for the first two days, and then even larger numbers over the Shanghai weekend. Visitors queued for hours around the building to gain entry.
This was a huge learning curve for the organisers and exhibitors alike and full credit to the Media 10 team who tirelessly managed the event.
A late opening night VIP champagne reception in the sent Western sound waves rocking round the dome and a series of design seminars and an auction kept the momentum going throughout the show days.
The launch show was ably supported by UKTI and BCFA without whose assistance many companies would not have entered into this developing new marketplace. Great support too was given by the China Britain Business Council, who arranged a networking reception and provided a series of experts to help exhibitors answer the many and varied questions that cropped up throughout the event.
OK there were great challenges along the way but the invaluable experience gained by all and the exuberance of the response meant that we will certainly be looking forward to the next edition which will take place from 19-22nd March 2015 www.designshowshanghai.com
