DesignLSM create a refined dining experience for Cinnamon Kitchen
DesignLSM are thrilled to reveal their latest project for luminary Indian chef Vivek Singh, creating a stylish all day dining concept for his newest London venture – Cinnamon Kitchen, Battersea.
The 120-cover restaurant in West Circus Village, is part of the first wave of redevelopment at Battersea Power Station and is the third restaurant that DesignLSM have designed for Vivek‘s restaurant group The Cinnamon Collection.
Set in a former Victorian Railway Arch, the open plan space has been designed to enhance the building’s original fabric. Restored existing brickwork, exposed duct work and the inclusion of a blackened steel mezzanine-dining floor creates an industrial feel, which is contrasted with a soft refined material palette – featuring polished brass, a white marble bar and rich velvet upholstered dining chairs.
The Guest Journey
Guests are invited in through the minimal glass fronted entrance and greeted at a contemporary polished brass welcome desk, before being lead into the open-planned ‘urban’ dining space.
Striking monochrome floor tiles laid down the centre of the room add a decorative feature to the raw feel of the space. The alluring black concrete cocktail bar sat at the front of the restaurant is poised, ready to serve up specialty spice-infused cocktails created by world-renowned mixologist Tony Coniglario.
The front section of the restaurant takes advantage of the natural day light, providing a relaxed ambience perfectly suited to lunch and a more casual dining experience.
The sculptural mezzanine floor, provides an elevated and intimate dining space whilst also providing a visual divide to the elongated space.
The restaurant transforms towards the back of the space, creating a more refined dining environment. This is conveyed through the introduction of wooden wall paneling and opulent brass lighting, complemented by the luxurious dining set consisting of ochre velvet tub chairs and rich warm oak tables.
The focus of this space is the central open kitchen, which provides ‘dining at the pass’ opportunities allowing guests the ultimate immersive insights into Vivek’s innovative menu.
Result
The design approach was highly respectful to the iconic Grade II-listed structure, creating a refined and urban dining environment that emulates the essence of the Cinnamon brand.
“Having worked on previous ventures for the Cinnamon group, the Battersea project offered us a chance to create a unique environment, which worked with the heritage of the space. Our challenge was to turn a rough space into a contemporary luxurious dining experience which we feel has been achieved, whilst offering a very different feel to its sister restaurants.” – Carly Zaver – Lead Designer
