Furniture Fusion: Babbo Restaurant London with Studio du Feu

A great neighbourhood restaurant is something to treasure, and it looks like the location for Furniture Fusion’s latest project is set to become a favourite. The contract furniture fi rm teamed up with designers Studio du Feu to deliver a stylish interior for the recently-launched Babbo Restaurant in St John’s Wood. Meaning ‘daddy’ in Italian, the restaurant is appropriately named – rooted in Italian tradition and inspired by family, it’s already winning new fans and seems sure to be a success in the smart north London location.

Furniture for a stylish new neighbourhood restaurant

Babbo occupies what was the home of the iconic Harry Morgan’s restaurant – an institution since it first opened in 1948. Studio du Feu’s design for the space is really special, with carefully-considered details, from flooring and lighting to the statement wooden wall panelling. The restaurant furniture includes chairs, tables, bar stools and bespoke fixed seating from Furniture Fusion, all combining to create an interior that critic Giles Coren rated 9/10 in his review in The Times.

The new restaurant features Furniture Fusion’s Chloe side chair throughout – a new addition to the fi rm’s collection, this is the first time the piece has been supplied for a project and it seems set to become a popular choice for restaurants, hotels and bars. Its bold silhouette channels 70s design, with a unique shape created by the rear legs which are joined by a distinctive crosspiece at both top and bottom. For the Babbo project, the team supplied the solid beech frame stained to natural walnut, which works well with the fabric and faux leather used for the back and seat upholstery.

Aside from the welcoming main dining room, Babbo also has an outside space which is sure to be in demand over the summer months, and an intimate bar area which makes a great spot for a pre- or post-dinner drink. Furniture Fusion’s Roll lounge chairs have been seen in several recent hotel and restaurant projects and look perfectly at home here. Upholstered in a deep cherry red textured velvet fabric, they bring a touch of vintage glamour to the space, and sit perfectly alongside the bespoke fixed seating created by the Furniture Fusion team.

It’s clear that high quality fixtures, fittings and finishes have been specified throughout, from the solid ash table tops finished in natural walnut with antique bronze bases to the sleek Cologne bar stools upholstered in velvet and faux leather. One of the latest additions to the Furniture Fusion collection, the Cologne bar stool is also available in solid beech, but solid ash was specified for this project. The wood was stained to walnut to complement the rest of the interior and with its sleek curved backrest and unique frame design, adds a cool contemporary note.

Guests visiting in warmer weather will be able to dine outside, sitting in comfort on armchairs and side chairs from Furniture Fusion’s Madrid collection. Both pieces feature a streamlined metal frame with woven rope back and seat, in a smart slate grey. The furniture firm’s skilled team created custom cushions and seat pads to ensure that guests can linger over lunch and sit comfortably throughout dinner, using outdoor fabric in both deep red and neutral tones to echo the interior colour scheme. Bespoke bolster cushions were also created to complement the fluted fixed seating which features throughout the restaurant and bar areas, finished in a textured fabric which looks great set against the cherry red velvet upholstery.

This is the latest of several successful projects for Furniture Fusion and Studio du Feu, and it’s clear that the teams work well together. The end result is another stylish, original space – it’s warm, welcoming and comfortable with chic contemporary details throughout.
