Furniture Fusion Explores the Power of Colour: Bold Hues and Patterns Transform Commercial Interiors

Colour continues to play a crucial role in the products we design and supply – from bespoke bar stools and lounge chairs to super-size sofas, Furniture Fusion use fabrics and finishes in a range of shades to create commercial interiors that stand out.

Furniture Fusion are not seeing one dominant colour trend and that’s what keeps things so interesting and inspirational. From rich ruby reds and sapphire blues at a London cocktail bar, to muted greys and greens in a Cardiff hotel suite, clients and designers are selecting from the full colour spectrum. They have seen much more use of pattern and texture too – lots of luxe velvets, tactile leathers and textured tweeds, but the standout trend is the use of bold geometric print and clashing patterns.

Regent’s University London

What’s clear is that colour adds personality and atmosphere to a space. For their project at Regent’s University London, the Furniture Fusion team used very different palettes for the three distinct areas of the university, from dark stained wood and rich brown leather in a quiet study space to bold block colour in a welcome lounge to greet guests.

The Flex Lounge is a calm, restful room where academics can meet with colleagues and visitors, prepare for classes, work or read. Furniture Fusion’s classic Camelia Lounge Chair used here is upholstered in sage green fabric, while their Lilian Lounge Chair looks fantastic in a burnt orange velvet – we love the intense colour against the muted paintwork and soft lighting! Although this is a refined, elegant setting, bold pattern works well, with the Camelia chair and a bespoke sofa adorned with geometric shapes in shades of powder pink, navy and soft grey.

A revamped Student Lounge uses colour to deliver a distinctive identity in a large space. Set against a statement wallpaper, a bespoke 3.5m L-shaped sofa is upholstered in a plush deep orange velvet. It’s a practical piece that becomes a talking point through the use of a punchy hue. This is an area for students to meet, relax, work and socialise – so the pieces supplied had to be practical and hard-wearing, as well as looking the part. The oversized sofa adds a fun element to the room, which is an inviting spot for groups of friends to hang out between classes. The result is an informal environment that’s still stylish and welcoming.

Heart of Leeds hotel project

This project also brings an Op Art-inspired pattern into the mix – giving a new and unique dimension to their Camelia chair. While the fabric uses more subtle shades, the striking design makes a strong statement. The team loved the clashes of colour and patterns and think it sets the tone for a space that’s fun and not just functional.

Leeds hotel project

Colour also played a big part in a recent hotel project in the heart of Leeds – particularly the use of some stunning fabrics on the lounge chair, desk chair and sofa beds that were supplied. Furniture Fusion’s Ginger Lounge Chair was upholstered in contrasting fabrics – a textured weave in ochre and a fabulous luxurious velvet. The statement chevron design contrasted perfectly with the block colour and looked great finished with piping in a warm orange shade. The same textured fabric was used for a desk chair, this time with bold orange and yellow tones to contrast with the inner back and seat upholstered in a deep blue velvet. Each of the pieces Furniture Fusion supplied features piping in a vibrant orange fabric – this detail elevates and unifies the design and really pops against the muted greys, blues and tan used elsewhere in the project.
