The interior is lined with stunning brass etchings, marble tiles adorn the floors and stained glass dapples the light in the Rotunda bar. Rooms are decorated in an opulent, luxurious style with executive furniture and state-of-the-art audio visual equipment.Howarth Lichfield were the designers for this project and Kathryn Mason, interior designer commented;
“This project involved a full refurbishment of a Grade II listed building…This was converted into a hotel complete with 83 on suite bedrooms, a bar, a restaurant, fitness suite, coffee house, reception and function room.”
Every Hotel Indigo is designed with the surrounding area in mind and to reflect its character. Inspiration for this project was drawn from 3 different themes; the cathedral, the university buildings in Durham and the scientific research carried out at the university. With these three themes in mind, it was a priority to preserve and enhance the original features of the building.
BCFA members Jeffrey Carr were pleased to have supplied and manufactured the curtains, blinds, bed-runners and cushions in all the bedrooms and public areas of this hotel.
