With the bar thriving in its new home, the time came for a refresh. But how do you modernise a space without losing the very essence that makes it special? How do you ensure that regulars, who have made countless memories here, still feel at home while also attracting a new generation of guests?

The General Manager, tasked with a difficult but exciting challenge: to give the venue a fresh new look while keeping its nostalgic charm intact. It wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about preserving the soul of the bar.

Rather than turning to an interior designer, the venue’s team took a hands-on approach, searching for the right partner to bring this vision to life. That’s when they found Inside Out Contracts. A few emails and phone calls later, the collaboration was set in motion.

A Balancing Act Between Old and New

The challenge was clear—how do you update a space without erasing what makes it special? The original venue had a dark, moody charm with rich wood tones, dim lighting, and an intimate feel. The goal was to retain that atmosphere but introduce a fresh, modern touch.

Then there was the practical side of things. The Piano Bar isn’t just a quiet lounge—it’s a high-energy venue where drinks are spilled, and the night doesn’t end early. Every design choice had to balance style and durability. The furniture needed to withstand heavy use but still look impeccable at the start of each evening. The layout had to ensure that no matter where you sat, you could see the piano—the heart of the venue.

The design process in action—fabric selections, material samples, and space planning layouts helped shape a refreshed, durable, and visually stunning venue that honors its legacy.

Inside Out Contracts worked closely with the team over three months, visiting the site five times to refine ideas and finalise designs. Instead of a full renovation, they focused on smart, strategic upgrades. The existing banquette seating was re-foamed and reupholstered, giving it a fresh new look without losing its familiar feel. Flooring was replaced, and carefully selected furniture brought in—durable, stylish, and practical.

A Venue That Feels Like Home—Only Better

The result? A perfectly executed refresh that respects The Piano Bar’s legacy while preparing it for the future. Softer curves, updated colours, and modern materials blend seamlessly with the venue’s classic aesthetic. Some tables now feature lightweight laminate tops—easy to clean, heat-resistant, and moveable for events. Every design choice was intentional, ensuring the space remained both functional and inviting.
