Award-winning folding bed manufacturer and BCFA member JAY-BE® undertook an ambitious project to design an inventive Sofa Bed solution, purpose-built specifically for hotels, studio apartments and similar city centre environments.

This particular model is used by Staycity Aparthotels, in their various locations all over Europe.

The JAY-BE® designers were briefed that they would need to come up with an inventive sofa bed solution to use in compact family rooms, where space might otherwise be a problem. Staycity were keen to provide their guests with one sofa bed that pulled out into two totally separate beds – completely independent from each other for privacy – as an alternative to a traditional double. This would allow them to be used by mixed sex family groups.

It was also important for the sofa beds to be stylish without detracting attention from the rest of the room, where in most instances each element of the interior design had been carefully curated. In order for the same sofa bed design to suit a variety of differently styled rooms, JAYBE® offered it in a range of colour variations and fabrics.

The result was a twist on their most popular Sofa Bed models, ‘The Modern’ – adapted and altered for city centre use without compromising on practicality and comfort. The designers JAYBE® effectively combined two singles to achieve one comfortable sofa and two private single beds, that could either be used both at the same time or one open while the other was closed.

Despite being compact, the Sofa Bed itself still had a generous seating area when closed and took up a relatively small amount of floor space. Staycity were extremely satisfied and chose to order these for around 200 of their apartments.
