JOHNSON TILES SUPPORTS EMERGING DESIGN TALENT WITH TWO ASSOCIATE PRIZES AT NEW DESIGNERS 2016
Johnson Tiles, the UK’s leading manufacturer and importer of ceramic and porcelain wall and floor tiles, once again supports emerging designers with the sponsorship of two associate prizes at New Designers 2016 (29 June – 2 July, and 6 – 9 July).
Taking place at the Business Design Centre, London, N1, the event offers new design talent the chance to showcase their work to thousands of visitors from the A&D community. The majority of previous exhibitors have gone on to careers in the design industry, whilst a number have become household names.
Johnson Tiles’ Designer, Maria Swain, exhibited at New Designers in 2012, and has since been an integral part of the creative team at Johnson Tiles’ headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent. This year, Maria will sit on the judging panel alongside Creative Director, Darren Clanford.
Speaking of the show, Maria said:
“After exhibiting at New Designers in 2012, I am delighted to be returning in a judging capacity to help the next generation of designers to establish themselves in the industry. Over the past four years I have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge, which I will apply to my role as judge at this year’s event.”
“And I am not alone — within our Design Team two of my fellow colleagues also exhibited at the show as students, Amy Pears in 2009, and Melanie Holland in 2000 and 2002. The event was the perfect platform to showcase our graduate collections and we are excited to see what this year’s line-up holds.”
Darren Clanford, Creative Director at Johnson Tiles said:
“At Johnson Tiles, we’ve always been great supporters of emerging talent. Having a creative team made up of experience and fresh ideas ensures we create the most trend-led products, with the assurance of quality design. We’re excited to see what the exhibitors at this year’s New Designers event have to offer, and are honoured to be part of what is now considered a staple on the design circuit.”
Johnson Tiles will award one prize for Part One (29 June – 2 July 2016) and one prize for Part Two (6 – 9 July 2016) of New Designers. The judging panel, which includes a combined team from Johnson Tiles and Material Lab – Johnson Tiles’ London-based studio, will be looking for a combination of trend awareness, innovation, attention to detail and quality of overall presentation from the candidates in each category.
For Part One, the winner will be awarded £500 and a two-week work placement at Johnson Tiles’ Stoke-on-Trent headquarters. And for Part Two, the prize on offer is £500 and a two-week internship at Material Lab, London.
