Kirkby Design Unveils 4D Upholstery and Drapery Collections: A Fusion of Texture, Nature, and Sustainability

The concept of 4D begins with a foundation in 3D, augmented by an additional dimension – whether it’s space, time, or another influence. Spotlighting the environment as this added dimension, Kirkby Design presents 4D UPHOLSTERY and 4D DRAPERY, two collections that celebrate responsiveness to our surroundings.

Drawing inspiration from natural phenomena, the 4D UPHOLSTERY collection embraces the concept of textured fabrics tailored to our surroundings including quilted wool, bouclés, chenille and recycled cotton. 4D DRAPERY is a collection of wide-width fabrics that bring a new dimension to textured designs, transforming them into lightweight materials, and emphasising intricate surfaces, with subtle, nature-inspired patterns and diverse interpretations of stripes, all with a contemporary aesthetic.

Each of the designs incorporates either recycled materials or sustainable qualities, aligning with the Kirkby commitment to innovation and responsible design. Here we highlight the four 4D upholstery designer suitable for commercial projects:

AREA – RECYCLED 3D WOOL

Inspired by Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, AREA was created after exploring designs that can shrink and expand which is typical of a 4D object. Quilted for a super texture, the fabric is created using 100% recycled wool from fashion with recycled polyester FR foam wadding made from plastic bottles.

SENSE – RECYCLED CHENILLE

SENSE is a shabby recycled cotton chenille, that offers an irresistibly soft touch, reminiscent of a luxuriously fluffy towel. SENSE is crafted from a blend of recycled cotton and polyester.

CODE – RECYCLED TEXTURED WEAVE

CODE is a recycled cotton semi-plain fabric featuring an irregular dot pattern with a dynamic, unpredictable movement inspired by the abstract flow of morse code. This design captures the essence of multidimensionality, blending texture and movement to create a captivating sensory experience.

FEEL – RECYCLED BOUCLÉ WEAVE

FEEL is a fabric that invites tactile exploration. A contemporary stripe comes to life with lines of highly textured wool bouclé, standing prominently against a recycled cotton ground.
