Loomah was recently recommended for their design expertise and technical capabilities to assist Schiller Beynon Interior Design in designing a stair runner for a winding staircase in a Grade II listed townhouse in Mayfair.
Schiller Beynon visited Loomah’s London showroom with photographs of the interior to discuss the creative theme for the project. Whilst they were devoted to restoring many of the property’s original features, the overall brief was to create a space fit for 21st century living, creating a perfect blend of old and new. They were drawn to the border detail of a traditional design from our archives. This was re-worked into runner design in a more modern colour palette that we were able to manipulate to run seamlessly around the contours of the staircase.
Andrew Cotgrove, Managing Director of Loomah states:
“The character and charm of period buildings can often pose unique challenges,”
“London is notorious for such properties, but Loomah have the experience and expertise to tackle the wonkiest of staircases”.
The character and charm of period buildings can often pose unique challenges. Working closely with Loomah’s highly skilled installation team, Loomah meticulously planned how the border design would flow down each step, cutting full paper templates on site. The border was hand drawn onto the templates before being sent to out to our factory for production. When Loomah came to install, Loomah rolled out the runners down the staircases and they fell perfectly into place.
Following the success of the stair runner, Schiller Beynon commissioned two rugs for the living room and dining room, but rather than taking inspiration from our archive, on this occasion they utilised our in house-design team and commissioned two completely bespoke designs. “As a designer, it is so exciting to collaborate with a customer and bring their ideas to life,” says Antonina. “It was a great compliment to be further entrusted by the client to design two additional rugs. These weren’t part of the original brief, so Loomah had clearly done something right.”
It is so exciting to collaborate with a customer and bring their ideas to life. The brief was to create a contemporary yet classic design that connected to the heritage of the building. For the dining room rug a completely bespoke border was developed in a pared-back colour palette, with inspiration taken from the original ceiling moulding.
For the living room a more modern design with interlocking lines was designed to complement the contemporary aesthetic of the space without compromising on the character of the building. “The most rewarding projects are those when a client utilises our knowledge and expertise to assist them in creating designs that not only express their individual style but remain sympathetic to the history of their space.” adds Antonina.
