Ideas Limited
Founded by Keith Lovelace in 2002, IDEAS is a leading authority in ergonomics and inclusive design for any commercial or public space including leisure, sports, hospitality, healthcare, transport and education.
IDEAS focus on ‘Good Design’, which is underpinned with the fundamentals of inclusive design, innovation, and sustainability. This methodology is adhered to from the outset of any project to improve project efficiency and delivery therefore saving time, resources, and money, and considers the importance of user comfort, health, and safety.
Every project is viewed as a learning curve as they all have their own unique challenges. This is something that Keith thrives on as they can bring about a new insight or source of innovation.
IDEAS’ products have also changed in line with new attitudes and discoveries; from a traditional approach with bespoke joinery, IDEAS have evolved to use a standardised product range which uses a ‘kit-of-parts’ and circular design philosophy.
Their versatile range of products include Modular Rooms, Smart Walls, Storage Solutions, Ticket Offices, Mobile Information Units, Retail POD’s, Reception Desks, and Technical Furniture Systems. All of these can be customised to meet a client’s requirements, practical or aesthetic.
Recently, IDEAS’ work has been recognised by 2 design awards. They were ‘Highly Commended’ at the 2023 National Transport Awards for ‘Best Practice in Diversity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility’ and shortlisted for the third time in the FX International Interior Design Awards – this year in the ‘Public Space Schemes’ category. Both acknowledgements were for their work on the Elizabeth Line.
IDEAS’ list of clients includes BBC, Thomson Reuters, British Telecommunications, and Virgin Media. Their own guidelines have also been adopted by Network Rail, and they have been awarded the Furniture Industry Research Association’s (FIRA), Ergonomic Excellence Award.
Keith’s background includes studying ‘Design for Industry’ at Newcastle Upon Tyne Polytechnic (now Northumbria University), as well as being the Design Director for Ergonomic Workstations Ltd. He’s worked in the design and manufacturing sector for over 40 years and is an advocate of ‘Good Design’.
