Roundup: Morgan’s Top Collections for Wellbeing

Wellbeing is an integral part of interior design. Every element in a room has a role to play in cultivating a relaxed environment and good mental health. Seating especially is a key consideration. As something which is both looked at and frequently used, it must be visually appealing, tactile and comfortable too.

Whether specifying for an office, hotel, or restaurant, your furniture requirements will vary, from prioritising larger statement pieces to accommodate groups to curating more private seating areas with a smaller footprint.

At Morgan, we strive to balance original, contemporary aesthetics with exceptional, and functional, comfort. Below, I share some of the collections which exemplify this best, and which will contribute to achieving that all-important sense of wellbeing.

Lugano

This lounge and dining collection was inspired by human interactions, the idea of nurturing and of being nurtured. Dreamed into life by award-winning designer Rock Galpin, the chair’s seat and body float within the frame which cradles them, much like the lake in southern Switzerland after which the collection is named.

Comprising a signature lounge chair, small lounge chair and a dining chair, each piece features soft, enveloping upholstered elements which embrace users. Specifiers can also take comfort knowing the collection’s been made with a sustainable ‘make once, make well’ approach. In other words, complete product replacement has been designed out; three separate elements – seat pad, back/arm rests and frame – can be individually replaced or updated, reducing environmental impact.

This three-part composition offers interior designers greater artistic control to realise their visions through endless combinations of upholstery, material and finish options.

Kaya

The Kaya lounge collection embraces space and light, finding its roots in the openness, honesty and purity of trees. Soft, sculpted upholstery provides enveloping comfort, complemented by the strong, yet gentle curve of crafted timber frames.

Kaya’s aesthetic emerged from a desire to look beyond the heavy materials and density of the built environment, peeling back the surface to reveal the pure form within. The use of small individual timber sections in place of a single, larger component evokes an atmosphere of ‘komorebi’, the Japanese word for the sunshine filtering through leaves.

A versatile collection for interiors from hospitality to the workplace, the smaller lounge chairs are perfect for projects requiring a smaller footprint, while the larger lounge and high back chairs maintain a greater presence and impact in spacious environments such as lobbies, breakout areas and gallery spaces.

Metro

For those seeking a more dramatic look, the Metro high back wing chair combines a dynamic profile with comfort and privacy. An especially high back with extended wings blocks excess surrounding noise, ideal for individual working or quiet relaxation. Enhance visual interest even further by specifying contrasting fabrics for different panels.

The collection also includes a low back lounge chair and sofa with upholstered bodies, button back detail and option timber arms. A playful take on mid-century style, the lounge chair is available with a choice of timber base, wire sled or timber rocking base.

Morgan’s Metro lounge chairs, alongside its Kyoto linear bench, can be spotted at the Alan Turing Institute based in the British Library, where they contribute to an inspirational, collaborative and functional atmosphere.

Ribb

Those with an appetite for sophistication and intimacy should look no further than the Ribb collection. Juxtaposing a flat square exterior with a soft ribbed interior, sofas and chairs are available in low and high backs.

When specified with a high back, the seats become cosy booths, whether you want to offer guests privacy in a hotel lobby or employees some quiet respite in the office. In BMW’s headquarters at Farnborough, the high back chairs feature bringing an element of warmth to the bright reception area.

Maximising options for true comfort, the Ribb collection also includes a daybed. This can be configured with the arm on the left or right to suit your space.

Valencia

For larger or social spaces, sofas are sometimes preferred. Selecting a modular seating system can provide design flexibility while also adding visual interest. Morgan’s Valencia collection achieves exactly that. Comprising full, ¾ and ½ back modules which can be combined to create a unique, eye-catching profile.

Whether you want to give groups a space to socialise, or create separate zones for use by one or two people at a time, Valencia offers endless possibilities while achieving maximum visual impact.

When the Apex City of London Hotel underwent a full front of house refurbishment, Valencia was a perfect fit. Specified in rich emerald green velvet, a combination of banquette sofas and sculptural daybeds populate the dining area and upper lounge bar. Spacious and inviting, the seating encourages guests to relax and stay awhile.
