Sketch Series: Holworth by Nathalie de Leval
At this years Design Guild Mark, Design Insider caught up with a few of the award winning designers to find out a little more about the the inspiration behind products that had been honour with Guild Mark this year.
Our Sketch series continues with Nathalie de Leval who for the third time has collaborated with Benchmark to create the Holworth chair, with its bow back and refined tapered shape the Holworth is a modern take on a familiar archetype. Conceived as a dining chair for the home and hospitality, the design was led by the idea of creating a low landscape of chairs around a table.
Nathalie de Leval is a furniture designer and maker, whose work ranges from bespoke commissions and products, to design for furniture production. Originally a sculptor, she studied cabinet making to improve her making skills, and discovered a passion for furniture which led to an MA in furniture design at the Royal College of Art. In 2014 she was invited by Sir Paul Smith to collaborate on the ‘Wishlist’ as part of the London Design Festival. The result, Paul’s Shed, quickly became something of a celebrity in its own right.
