Studio Jasper Sanders + Partners x Ultrafabrics

Manchester-based studio Jasper Sanders + Partners unveils new high in-demand premium student living in Edinburgh, using Ultrafabrics on various pieces of furniture that demand durability as well as polished style.

The purpose-built boutique student project 16-18 Potterrow is opposite the esteemed University of Edinburgh and a mere 10-minute stroll from Waverley Station. Standing as a beacon of contemporary interior design in the heart of the city, Jasper Sanders + Partners undertook a comprehensive refurbishment for this prominent eight-storey building, and they looked to Ultrafabrics to inform the textile design.

Since its inception, Ultrafabrics has been at the forefront of innovation, delivering superior performance fabrics that redefine luxury, durability and sustainability. And now, in its 25th anniversary year, with a broad base of clients such as MillerKnoll, Jaguar Land Rover, Google Fitbit, Virgin Galactic and Gulfstream Aerospace to name a few, all markets turn to the brand because of its commitment to the highest level of compliance and transparency for its ESG goals. Sustainability is not sacrificed for quality with Ultrafabrics.

Jasper Sanders, Founder and Director of Jasper Sanders + Partners, says:

“We specify Ultrafabrics upholsteries for their exceptional durability and rich, vibrant colours – which ensure our interiors are both striking and enduring.”

At the core of the Jasper Sanders + Partners’ student housing, the design narrative draws inspiration from the vibrant tapestry of Scotland’s cultural heritage. From the rugged terrain of the Highlands to the storied elegance of Edinburgh, every aspect of the residence pays homage to the nation’s rich history.

Evoking the spirit of the Highlands’ jagged cliffs and the graceful silhouette of the thistle, the design seamlessly blends contrasts and contractions into a new play. Jasper Sanders + Partners’ design vision reimagines Potterrow as a dynamic building where form meets function. The scheme’s narrative is subliminal rather than literal, presented through contrasting textures, surfaces and interplay of lighting, adding to the overall character and atmosphere. The studio focused on an enriched experience with tactility and edge, the use of ultraviolet and complimentary whiskey tones hones in on delivering a clear sense of place and enlivened brand identity.

Keen to be as sustainable as possible, JS+P used Hitch Mylius seats covered in Ultrafabrics’ Brisa Fresco 544-3102 Grotto seat upholstery and Brisa Fresco 544-3197 Patina back upholstery material. Being student living, it was important the materials were easily wipeable and cleanable over a long time. The use of the Ultrafabrics textures against other design details such as the ribbed panel walls and stainless steel gave a finish that reflected the light well.

In addition to its aesthetic allure, 16-18 Potterrow Student Living boasts a wealth of amenities designed to enrich the student experience. From tranquil study lounges to vibrant social spaces, each area is meticulously curated to foster a sense of community and belonging. The sixth-floor communal dining and lounge area offers panoramic views of the city and serves as a testament to the project’s commitment to excellence.

THE GORGE, EXETER

Continuing their collaboration once more, Jasper Sanders + Partners once again utilised Ultrafabrics for The George – a co-living residential building in Exeter. The work comprised the ground and lower ground amenity, as well as the design for the building’s 133 unique micro-apartments inclusive of an innovative modular furniture system to suit various room sizes, configurations, and budget constraints.

With the demand for affordable living on the rise, The Gorge delivers a series of relaxed and down-to-earth spaces that aim to promote a communal feel, amplifying the modern co-living experience.

Each studio features a variety of modular, bespoke furniture components that ensure the most efficient use of space. As one of the few co-living options available within the city, the finishes and styling of these apartments play a crucial role in conveying the right message to potential residents.

The studios are intended as places for residents to unwind and relax, with customisable elements that allow each person to feel truly at home.

Special attention has been given to storage solutions, recognising their importance in maximising the functionality and comfort of each living space. This thoughtful design approach ensures that residents have everything they need within a compact, well- organised environment. JS+P used Ultrafabrics Brisa Cinnabar 533-8245 in the private dining space as the colours gave the vibrancy and depth, as well as practical functionality.
