The UK in Dubai: Who’s who at INDEX/ Surface/ Workspace
INDEX Design Series / Surface / Workspace is the largest and longest running collection of interior, design and trend exhibitions in the Middle East.
Held at the Dubai World Trade Center from 26-29th March, the shows will present a rich and varied array of innovative, original and creative products and solutions for residential, retail, hospitality, educational, commercial, healthcare properties. Over 20 UK interiors and design companies will be exhibiting at the show facilitated by BCFA with support from the UK Department of International Trade.

With over 300 new models introduced during the autumn of 2017, Elstead have a great selection to display. There are some great new table lamps, many finished in luxurious gold or silver leaf. A great selection of IP44 bathroom lights for above the mirror or ambient wall lights, plus many decorative exterior lanterns for the great outdoors. For the living spaces look out for the beautiful Sabina collection and great cluster Fulton pendants from Hinkley and the Kenney, Oberlin and Dewitt ranges from Feiss. There are some fabulous new kitchen pendants including Cobson, Hobson and Baskin; hopefully something to suit all interior styles.

Are exhibiting evocative environmental landscapes by Dr Stanislav Shmelev, an award winning British photographer, painter, environmentalist and founder and CEO of Environment Europe. INDEX will feature his fine art photographs inspired by Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, UK, France and the countries of the Mediterranean and focused on nature protection and sensitive ecosystems that will bring life to any contemporary interior design solution. Formerly a member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, Senior Researcher at the Oxford University, and Visiting Professor at Universities of Geneva, Paris, Versailles, Colombia and Kazakhstan, Stanislav devotes all his energy to the promotion of sustainability ideas both through the language of art and of science.

We are showing our unique range of “Alhambra Plaques”. These are exact scale models, originally hand-carved in the 19th Century, of doorways at the Alhambra Palace, Granada, Spain. We have produced a range of exact reproductions in a number of finishes including faux-ivory (as shown), bronze verdigris, copper verdigris, antique plaster and oxidised iron. They are exquisitely carved in the Islamic style. They are ideal as artwork in both private residences and hotels or as corporate gifts.

‘The Jewel’ Petrified Wood Bath has been sourced and crafted by NIGEL FENWICK, a British designer with over thirty years’ experience of working with rare, functional and beautiful works of art, who has sourced objects and interiors for some of the most extravagant, exclusive and luxurious retreats in the world. The unique bathtub has been carefully and fastidiously crafted from a 14-tonne piece of petrified wood, around 180 million years old and one of the rarest and most beautiful raw materials in the world and believed to have incredible therapeutic and healing properties, even having the power to extend your life. Over 18 months of precision milling and hand-polishing, taking care not to cut too far into the stone, which would see the wood splinter into thousands of pieces and destroy our raw material, were rewarded, as we slowly witnessed the spectacular bathtub emerge from its gemstone shell.

Ventique is a London based gallery focusing on sculptural, functional pieces of art. Set in the heart of Chelsea, designers flock to Ventique to seek and commission unique artworks, sure to find pieces that can give any interior the finishing touch. The artist Matt Marga has created exclusive pieces for the gallery, mastering a sophisticated use of crystal and metal to design breath-taking yet practical objects. Inspired by the constellations, the Galassia collection was created using the finest gold foiled crystals, melted into a bronze-hued bed of glass. Soft shimmering refraction from the crystals, coupled with the warm toned glass, give a stunning but delicate appeal to the surroundings. The Milky Way table uses this technique to produce a mesmerizing surface, allowing the beholder to simply drift away into another realm.
